Grant Imahara One of the Mythbusters

Better known as the robot guy.

I got to see him last night in person at my college he spoke about his time at Industrial light and magic and stories from the show.

Apparently he has also worked on all the R2-D2's from starwars 1-3 and also controlled the R2's on some of the LucasFilm events around the world.

He has also worn the C3P0 suit at licensing events and other types of events since the person who plays C3P0 lives in England and the first time Grant wore the suit they only needed a C3P0 for about 30 minutes. And apparently C3P0 suit is in about 19 pieces and the way C3P0 walks is actually a result of how the suit moves because its made out of metal, vinyl, and one other material I can't remember.

Also during the myth where they were testing cold feet and Grant had the tarantulas on his face noone told him that when tarantulas are afraid they poop so as they crawled around his face they left trails.

Also on the myth where they tested if an airplane has a leak in the bathroom it forms the frozen ball that can destroy houses in order to use the windtunnel they had to replace all the rivets on the machine in case something went wrong, but their experiment that they put together in 3 days is what scientists had been experimenting with for 2 years.

Grant is also the creator of the current generation of Energizer bunnies Earl Frank and Garth (yes named after Garth Brooks). It takes 4 people to control the bunny, one for the head, one for the drum hands, one to drive, and apparently it has its own fluffer. The reason behind the new bunnies is that the original bunnies were created by a dude who I forget his name, but somehow under his contract the bunnies were his sole property so when the everready battery company (energizer) didn't want to work with him anymore they had no batteries. Also Grant started out doing the arms and worked his way up to the driving. There were 2 stipulations to making the bunnies one was that the arms had to beat in sync since the original bunnies had help from a dude listening to a metronome hit back and forth. The 2nd stipulation is that it had to run on energizer batters so grant ended up having something that looked like an AK-47 cartidge that holds 44 double AA energizer batterys. The bunny lasts like 30 minutes with those batteries.

Also apparently Jamie was a contestant on the original Robot Wars with a robot called Blendo. The thing was so evil that when a robot came into contact with it it exploded into pieces. During this show all the walls they had were 8 foot high walls of acryllic about an inch or 2 thick. Now during the 2nd annual tournament when Jamie exploded the robot a piece of shrapnel went over the wall and landed in the audience luckily noone was hurt, but the committee just gave jamie the prize money and the trophy and told jamie just please take your robot home.

The original brain child of mythbusters was actually an austrailian tv producer who created a tv show called something like the future of 2000 or the future of tommrrow. It was actually an interview thing on Robot wars that got Jamie into that position he told the guy "well I am not really good at talking on TV, but I have a friend who is great at that sort of thing." Hint Adam.

Last night listening to Grant was so much fun. He also worked on the ET bot for the 20th aniversary, XXX state of the union, Jurassic Park: Lost world, Matrix Reloaded and Revolution (2nd and 3rd), Galaxy Quest, and Van Helsing. That's about half of what I learned last night, but my brain is still trying to wake up.

I also remembered that Grant said the most disgusting myth he ever had to do was the one with the earwax candle.

Basically shrek pulled earwax out of his ear and used it as a candle. Well as it turns out to get enough earwax to make a candle would take almost more than a gym of 200ish people (the number that was there when I saw Grant).

In order to get enough earwax for the candle they had to go to a Ear doctor and over the course of a month he collected earwax for the mythbusters since one of the things this doctor does is remove earwax from patients. I know this because I have had this procedure done myself because my ears were so clogged I was having trouble hearing. I also have nothing, but Q-tips to blame for it.

Anyways what the doctor neglected to mention is that a lot of the earwax he acquired was technically *infected* earwax that's why it was removed.

The best part is that the only way to shape into a candle was to melt it so they could turn it into a candle shape. BAD IDEA.

Grant said that he had never seen Tory gag on any myth before, but during this "Event" Tory actually gagged.

Also the earwax was different colors. Yellow, Brown, Red were the ones he mentioned.

For the record my earwax wasn't infected, I just clean my ears with Q-tips and if you push the wax back to far it can mess with your hearing because it clogs where the sound goes through.
