Near-medical emergency Empty Near-medical emergency

Post by ftwinz Wed Jul 20, 2011 10:23 am

Hey guys,

Sorry if this seems a bit out of line, but I nearly had a medical emergency. Pretty sure it was an anaphylactic reaction.

Keeping the symptoms and everything that happened short: I collapsed twice, nearly stopped breathing and borderline fainted. Fairly certain it was an allergic reaction to a medication I had taken at 3-4am, to which finally kicked me at 6-7am.

We almost left for the ER until I had some water and insisted I was feeling better.

But man, that was a pretty scary experience...

Guys, be careful with Robitussin that's supposed to expire in the same month and year. It might not be a good idea...

Jun is not allowed to go into anaphylactic shock Sad

I took Robitussin that I had just bought and was nowhere near expiring. My legs were covered in hives. Maybe neither of us should ever have Robitussin again?

Yeah... no more Robitussin for us, Mono x-x

And yeah, amazingly enough... Thanks for asking, Ari!

I'm glad your feeling better. It sounds like you had an allergic reaction junbug! same with your experience mono. The active ingredient Dextromethorphan is an allergen to many people. It has nothing to do with the expiration date on the bottle. IN THE FUTURE, TAKE FLIPPIN' BENADRYL IF YOU ARE HAVING AN ALERGIC REACTION. It will make Tanz feel better. You to most likely. It might even save your life. Just my $o.o2. *huggles*

Blimey Junjun, please do be more careful!
That's why people need to check the expiry of any prescribed medication and over-the-counter drugs. Sad
/hug
Also seconding what Tanz said; Benadryl has an anti-histamine in it which can calm down an allergic reaction. Or get an epi-pen if you can.

And be careful with food as well! Do not cut anything out of your diet without your doctor's approval and guidance. My friend suddenly decided she would stop eating peanut butter, due to the mould that can be found in the nuts.
Now as we all know peanuts are pretty much in everything and it's hard to escape from... she decided to have something with peanut butter again and she started having a mild allergic reaction to it and that was after two weeks of no peanuts. It could have been so much worse had she waited longer.
